Rather predictable result whenVaqueros (4-2) won against Indios (1-4) in Mayaguez 86-79 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 25-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Indios ' 30. Vaqueros forced 19 Indios turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international power forward Renaldo Balkman (203-1984, college: S.Carolina) who led the winners and scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Gary Browne (185-1993, college: WVU) accounted for 8 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. Nigerian guard Olumiye Oni (198-1997, college: Yale, agency: Slash Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists and the former international swingman Benito Santiago (197-1989, college: Cumberlands) added 23 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for Indios in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Bayamon will meet Aguada on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mayaguez will play against Quebradillas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
